As we're moving towards brands going more sustainable and pushing for a more ethical approach, we're slowly seeing that new isn't always better. For fashion especially, pre-loved and vintage items are having a moment, and not shockingly, becoming a staple for the new cool girl look. Owning a unique piece mixed in with your existing wardrobe just makes it feel exclusive and it also adds a personal touch. Shopping at thrift stores is a great way to find fashion gems. But you can do one better and just raid your mom and dad's closet. If anything, it makes them more valuable for the stories they hold.

So we asked our SHEeos to share some things they've inherited from loved ones. From signature bags to vintage jackets, here are their favorites:

"My favorite hand-me-down item is this vintage Chanel bag from my mom. Throughout the years, my mom has been slowly passing down her designer bags to me. She's so hardworking and always puts her family first so I really look up to her. Every time she passes down a unique item, I take it as an award—that I did something great that year or that I worked really hard and made her proud. Love you, Mom. Thank you!" - Bianca Francisco

"Black jump shorts. This hand-me-down item was given by my sister-in-law two to three years ago when she decided to de-clutter her closet. She was torn between giving it or just keeping it inside her closet but I insisted not to. Hahaha! It was like love at first sight because I always wanted my ootd to be simple and classy. I can definitely relate to this movie "Blusang Itim" when it comes to how much confidence I have every time I wear it. Aside from it's classy look, the thing that I love most about this item is that I really look up to my sister-in-law as an inspiration. She's a very independent, responsible woman and maybe that's also one of the factors why I have this overflowing self-confidence when I wear it." - Jainil Corpus Ambida

"My favourite hand-me-down item is the vintage denim jacket I got from my mom. Not sure how long she’s had it but I love the quality (despite how old it is) and how it fits me. I’ve used it a lot since I got it and I consider it as a timeless piece." - Eloise Thea Tresvalles

"This was my mom’s from her teenage years. I fell in love with this purse when I saw it because it reminds me of Versace so much! I'm into very unique designs so this being a round purse made it very special for me. She gave it to me when I was a teenager and I always used it whenever I went to parties and clubs — looks great with an edgy outfit!"- Tiarra De Soto

"This was one of my dad’s gifts to my mom in 1995 when he went on a trip to Malaysia. The pearls embedded were blessed/cleansed to help my mom in her emotional and mental struggles. By the time I turned 15, I was clinically depressed, so my mom decided to hand this to me!"- Yelim Mo

"Gold flower earrings from my mom which was a gift from my dad. What made it special was the fact that my dad bought that himself. He’s not the type to go shop and choose an item himself because he’s more like a tell-me-what-you-like type of guy. So the fact that he made an effort to choose that design specifically for my mom makes my heart flutter and cherish the earrings even more." - Shelly Macatangay

"Audrey: The 60s coffee table book is my favorite hand-me-down because I've loved Audrey since I was in grade school, other than being a style icon I thought she was like a real life princess. I was obsessed with her and Grace Kelly. I've been staring at that book on my sister's shelf for years and she finally let me adopt it." - Stevie Eigenmann

"I love hand-me-downs, almost half of the things I own are just hand-me-downs from my mom. But one of my favorites is this Vintage Prada Floral Silk Pumps from my other mom (a.k.a. future mom-in-law). It's classy yet playful like my personal style! Also, I'm just so grateful that she let me own a piece from her vintage collection— like I'm also her own daughter." - Modesty Eugenio

"This ring was originally given by my dad to my mom. It’s made out of real gold and the star has little diamonds inside. When we experienced a very painful loss in the family, my mom decided to pass this down to me. At the time it almost felt like she was giving me an anting-anting and that this ring was charmed with her motherly protection somehow. Since then, I have never taken this ring off … ever! I have worn it every single day without fail. Someday when I have a daughter of my own, I will pass this down to her too." - Theola Destura
